We had a great turn-out for this year's holiday open studio. Folks of all ages enjoyed the fun of making their own copper pendant with pre-cut discs or rectangles. With all the prep work done, folks were free to focus on their designs. And the low cost of $5 made it an easy decision for some holiday creativity. The event worked out so well I did again the next weekend for the Holiday Walkabout. I was so busy handing out pendant blanks that night I didn't even get to take photos!

Next month I'll be taking my hammers and files on the road and heading to the University of Central Oklahoma. Professor and Assistant Dean Charleen Weidell has invited me to share my love of mokume gane with her jewelry and metalworking students. We'll spend three days exploring the world of mokume gane - history, current trends, and practical demos of stamp and twist patterning. Students will receive their own blank mokume to try their hand at patterning too. As part of the workshop I'll be giving a public lecture on my work and how I transitioned from art student to successful small business owner.
If you are nearby Edmond, Oklahoma on March 12-14, 2015 stop by and say hello!
3/25/15 update - the workshop was a blast! The studio at OCU is fabulous, with an impressive tool collection and dedicated students and faculty. Even the lecture was well-attended and received ~ phew. Might have a video of that in the future, but in the meantime here's some images of the workshop itself:
First Open Studio of 2015!
Friday, February 6th, 5-9pm
Don’t miss our next Friday Night Liberty! See fun jewelry-making demonstrations – hammers, torches, gold! This month Anneville Studio is featuring the work of Rhonda McCarty of La Luz Jewelry. Rhonda’s warm, textural work is imbued with a sense of other times, other planes of existence. She is inspired by ancient coins, amulets and symbology from cultures and religions across the world and across history. Rhonda sells her work nationally and locally in fine craft fairs and online. Come meet her in person! (Hint: this is the last Open Studio before Valentine's Day!). Friday Night Liberty is from 5-9pm on February 6th. Get directions to Liberty Station.
