I’m very excited to introduce my first intern, Francesca Urciuoli. Francesca is a talented jewelry artist from Perugia, Italy who will be assisting me and advancing her jewelry/metals studies here at Anneville for the next few months. Francesca will be helping out with my classes at Anneville Studio and volunteering at WCCPL, sharing with us her unique skills and outlook. Francesca is fresh from finishing her MFA at the top-ranked metals program at SUNY New Paltz in New York. Before that, she received her BFA in metals from Alchimia in Florence, Italy. Francesca's approach to jewelry focuses on exploring the properties of unconventional jewelry materials such as metals, silicon and fabric. We invite you to a special Friday Night Liberty to help welcome Francesca. Friday, February 5th, 5-9pm. She will be showing her work, and would love to answer your questions about her schools, her work, the difference between American and European jewelry, what it was like to drive across the U.S. from New York to San Diego, and anything else you might have always wanted to ask an Italian jeweler. Word has it she cooks, too! And that she's bringing homemade Italian goodies for us to share. Wow! See some of Francesca's work below, and more on her website.

Anneville will be just one of over 80 artist studios, galleries, museums and other art destinations open. With a dozen fabulous restaurants within walking distance, it makes a great evening out. Don't miss it! When: Friday, October 2, 5-9pm What: Handcrafted art jewelry, live jewelry-making demos Where: Anneville Studio, barracks 15 at Liberty Station Cost?: Free, open to the public, part of NTC at Liberty Station's Monthly Open Studio top: Sheryl Haupt middle: Irene Wetsman bottom: Dennis Turner Great fun was had by all last month at FNL (Friday Night Liberty, my monthly open studio). Many of my students stopped by to admire the fold-forming expertise of Pat Downing, and other folks were drawn in by the sound of me hammering. The evening went by quickly as I demonstrated some basic folds in thin gauge copper while Pat wowed the audience with his colorful and creative fold-form copper sculptures and vessels. First Open Studio of 2015! Friday, February 6th, 5-9pm Don’t miss our next Friday Night Liberty! See fun jewelry-making demonstrations – hammers, torches, gold! This month Anneville Studio is featuring the work of Rhonda McCarty of La Luz Jewelry. Rhonda’s warm, textural work is imbued with a sense of other times, other planes of existence. She is inspired by ancient coins, amulets and symbology from cultures and religions across the world and across history. Rhonda sells her work nationally and locally in fine craft fairs and online. Come meet her in person! (Hint: this is the last Open Studio before Valentine's Day!). Friday Night Liberty is from 5-9pm on February 6th. Get directions to Liberty Station. Coming up at my next open studio I am proud to have jewelry artist Irene Wetsman joining me at Anneville. Irene has been selling her work professionally for over 6 years. Her personal interests in travel and art history have led her to specialize in the traditional and time-consuming technique of chasing and repoussé. Irene shows her work at the finer craft fairs in San Diego and various private trunk shows. See more of her work on her website. Enjoy our holiday cheer while you shop for unique creative gifts. I've got some new bracelets and jewelry for sale, and we will demonstrate Irene's signature technique of chasing/repoussé! All of NTC at Liberty Station will be decked out for the holidays, with strolling carolers and live music. NTC Friday Night Liberty is the easy parking/fine-dining alternative to the chaotic hubbub of December Nights.
