Fuse, Forge, & Roll - In-person
Expanded 4-day edition for Florida Society of Goldsmiths
February 14-17, 2026
Tuition $700, kit fee $80 in class
Dunedin, Florida (Tampa/St. Petersburg area)

Mokume Gane is an ancient Japanese metalworking technique in which layers of metal are fused together using time, heat, and pressure (no solder). All aspects of the billet-making process will be covered in this class, from billet design, proper cleaning and prep, to what temperatures and soak times to use for what metals, etc. We’ll be using the precise solid-state diffusion bonding method, and hot-forging our billets. After rolling the billets down to sheet and/or rod they will be ready to pattern. This 4-day expanded class will allow time for creating a second billet and/or learning some beginning patterning. This workshop is a great follow on for those who have taken any of Anne’s online mokume gane patterning classes, but it is also open to those new to mokume gane. Participants can expect to create mokume gane billets and patterned samples, to be turned into finished work in their own studio or the next class. Detailed handouts including step-by-steps and equipment sources will be provided. Experience annealing and soldering silver is recommended.Kit fee covers consumables, billet materials except optional silver, and use of torque plates. Students also have the option to purchase a stainless steel torque plate set for $160.
Register through Florida Society of Goldsmiths.

Get Your Anneville Mokume Swag!
As many of you might know, my partner Ame is an illustrator and sells her original designs through her online shop Mondobop. I'm so happy to present here Mondobop's first mokume offering! Ame and I designed this together, with many revisions over coffee and pastries (with me waving my hands in the air describing the perfect Japanese hammer head shape). The kanji spells out "wood eye metal" (the direct translation for mokume gane), while the mokume patterns depicted within the kanji and on the hammer handle are straight from my own work. Even the colors are based on actual alloy combinations. The shirts come in short, long or no sleeves, and there are totebags too! See more colors and totebag pics.

2025 Year in Review
2025 was a whirlwind of a year! In January I taught a 3-day online mokume box class, then in February taught in Seattle at Danaca Design and got to tour the late Phillip Baldwin’s studio. I continued north to Fairbanks Alaska and taught a talented and generous group how to make their own mokume gane billets (got to hug a reindeer too). Back home in San Diego I helped my mom move to her new condo, and welcomed my father-in-law Vance to our house (he lived with us for 9 months before heading back to Mexico). Throughout the year I made 47 rings, taught 4 in person and three online classes, went on two vacations and even managed to take two metals classes myself! I made just a few vessels and larger works; I really want to spend more time on that next year.

Baldwin's Patina, Unlocked
One of the surprise silver linings that came along with the sad passing of Phillip Baldwin (mokume maker, metalsmith and blacksmith extraordinaire) was getting to meet his wife Layne Goldsmith. She generously shared the recipe for Baldwin's patina with me back in March and gave me her blessing to share it widely. I wanted to test it first though. Finally I've had a chance to make up a batch and I can say it works perfectly! Pretty easy to put together, and forgiving too.
