Stamped Mokume Gane Pendant Class
July 11 & 12, 2026 - Saturday & Sunday 10am-4pm Pacific Time
Tuition $295 + $85-$175 kit fee (+tax & shipping - sold separately)
Learn to stamp-pattern mokume gane, then create a stunning mokume gane pendant in your home studio. This online, interactive class is designed for beginning-intermediate jewelry/metals artists with some experience soldering and sawing. Stamping is the easiest patterning method; the kit includes mokume gane blanks so you can focus on the patterning. The first day you’ll create your own uniquely patterned mokume sheet, and the second day you’ll fabricate it into a domed pendant with silver edge and bail. Soldering and finishing a mokume gane piece can be tricky. This class will provide essential tips and tricks for clear, clean patterned pieces with good contrast and no pits, fuzziness or delaminations. You may even learn a few soldering tips applicable to your non-mokume work! Lastly we’ll patinate and protect the finished piece.
This online class is designed to work just like an in-person workshop, with demos, interactive presentations, and time to practice skills. We’ll be teaching via Zoom and you’re encouraged to work and ask questions along the way. We’ll finish each day with a group wrap up session. On the last day we’ll have our traditional raffle too! For the best experience, this class is limited to 15 students.
Equipment/supplies needed:
Torch, easy/medium solder, wooden hammering surface, a few stamp or chasing tools, sturdy steel forging surface, rawhide or plastic mallet, large ball pein hammer, planishing hammer, files, sawframe and 2/0 blades, liver of sulphur, and wood and/or metal dapping set. Optional: flexshaft, jumbo ring mandrel or other cylindrical forming stake, mushroom stake.
Basic Kit - sold separately: 1 copper/brass mokume blank, 1 steel stamp tool custom made by Anne (shape varies), sterling silver for bail and edging, sanding discs and mandrel, sandpaper and wax. $85.
Deluxe Kit - sold separately: Includes all above, plus a limited edition 3-color mokume blank (silver and two other metals, varies by class) hand-made by Anne and a sample size of Baldwin’s patina. $175.
Wondering if the deluxe kit is right for you? Silver/copper mokume can be ruined if overheated. If you can confidently anneal and solder silver without overheating it, you should be fine to order the deluxe kit.
Important: After buying the class, be sure to come back and purchase your kit no later than 2 weeks before class time (domestic), or 3 weeks (international).
