December heralded the opening of Anneville Jewelry Lab with our Lab Warming on December 7th and many equipment additions and lab improvements. We installed our state-of-the-art Durabull ventilation system, we got our fancy online registration system up and running with all of our class offerings listed, we put in a stylish new lobby rug, we installed our high-speed wi-fi, and we now have a fabulous glass display case to show off the completed jewelry and metalwork of our members. We also conducted 15 safety orientations, booked 30 hours of user lab time and sold out one of our 2019 classes! We were particularly excited to welcome our first lab users - from soldering station to rolling mill, the lab has been put through its paces by our intrepid early birds. Reports have been quite positive - folks love the natural light and beautiful wooden workbenches. Being in the space working with others has really helped us figure out all the small handtools needed - just yesterday we added ring sizers and stone-setting tools. Clearly people are enjoying using the space!
As to the 8-week classes we'll be offering starting in late January - the first one we put online sold out in three days! We've added another 8-week class on Monday mornings; there is still time to sign up for that one. We are also excited to have the application process for our Palladium memberships ready online - if you are a semi-pro (or aspiring) jeweler looking for co-working space, we've got the best deal in town. Anne's favorite new corner is the machine table, with 12" Durston shears and Irwin bench vise. We're saving spots on it for the drill press and tumbler. Over the holiday break we'll be working hard to get even more parts of the Lab built out and more goodies added. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! And if you're reading this in December, please accept our hearty invitation to join us for our official Grand Opening on Friday, January 4th when we'll be officially celebrating the full opening of the Lab with music, nibbles & sips and another great raffle with all sorts of interesting prizes.
