What an amazing first week of my Farnham residency!
What an amazing first week of my residency. I am learning to spin metal with Stefan Coe at @uca_jewellery_silversmithing, all thanks to @farnhamcrafttown. Stefan is a master metal spinner (a critically endangered craft) who just happens to live up the road from where I’m doing my residency. He was so generous to come down and show me the very basics. I’m thrilled to report that two days later I managed to successfully spin the same form on my own, without his help! And I still have all my fingers. It is going to take some practice before I’ll feel confident doing this with mokume, but today I feel sure that will happen before I leave Farnham. And did I mention it is soo much fun?! And it really does feel like throwing pottery?? Btw The big pot of goo is beef tallow.
