Based on the recent news and guidelines, we've decided to do our part to #FlattenTheCurve by cancelling both of our upcoming classes with Albion Smith. We all agreed that having him travel to San Diego from Santa Cruz right now was not a good idea. We're happily looking forward to rescheduling those classes once things have calmed down and we'll announce the new dates in upcoming newsletters. Keep calm and carry on. Mystic Medieval Ring - cancelled Jewelry/Metal Arts Workshop with Albion Smith March 27, 28 & 29, 2020 - 3-day Intensive Fri, Sat & Sun 10am-5pm Tuition $480 + $45-$60 materials fee payable in class. Create a ring fit for the Mother of Dragons by layering sterling silver sheet and wire and then adding colorful stones and 18k gold balls. In this rare opportunity you’ll get countless tips and tricks from master jeweler Albion Smith gleaned from over 50 years of working in silver. Your ring will be open backed (adjustable size) with one, two, or three stones. Depending on your experience level, you can add an overlay layer and hand-engrave or stamp embellishments for a rich textural surface. Bring your own faceted stones (if you have previous experience setting them) or learn with flat-backed cabochons (bring your own or shop our selection in class). Before Albion Smith became a master metalsmith he did industrial welding and created functional steel sculpture and knives. Albion’s award-winning work has been published in several books, has won numerous awards and one of his pieces is in the Smithsonian museum's permanent collection. He shares his love of handcrafts through teaching. "I have an almost religious commitment to handcraft and am quite possibly a fanatic." Check back in the future for new dates. Overlay Cuff Bracelet - cancelled Jewelry/Metal Arts Workshop with Albion Smith March 23 & 24, 2020 - 2-day Intensive Mon & Tues 10am-5pm Tuition $320 + $50 materials fee payable in class. This is a rare opportunity to learn from a master of silversmithing. Albion Smith’s overlay technique is magic - unlike anything you’ve ever seen, it will surprise you and change the way you solder forever. Over two days, you’ll be shown every step as you create your own silver overlay cuff bracelet in Albion’s signature style, with added round wire edging and gold ball accents. You’ll have the opportunity to try hand-engraving and/or stamp texture to further embellish the surface of your piece. It is a fast-paced class - Albion recommends sawing out the 22g overlay part before class, especially for slow sawers. Supply list, specific guidelines and pattern suggestions will be emailed after registration. This class is best for students who have some experience soldering silver. Check back in the future for new dates.
